An authentic antique Louis Philippe French armoire. Made of Chestnut, this is an exceptionally elegant piece which has lovely proportions. It dates from the mid to late 1800s and is quite short for this style of armoire making it ideal for UK homes. A quality piece in its day, the external wood has a beautiful grain and honey coloured hue which contrasts beautifully with the brass escutcheons. Internally, the armoire is spacious and comes with a shelf and fitted hanging rail.
This armoire is fully knockdown, dissembling into manageable pieces for ease of transport. It will require 2 people to assemble. Buyers will receive a step by step guide to help them.
Condition: Good. As with all French furniture of this age there are idiosyncrasies and signs of wear. It has experienced woodworm in the past and a small piece of wood has been replaced at the rear of the left side. The right lower side of the armoire has a split in the wood. This is not damage, it is due to the wood expanding and contracting in different temperatures as armoires of this age were not designed to suit modern heating. It appears that someone previously has attempted to glue this area and some residue is still apparent.
