A beautiful authentic French antique armoire. Made of solid oak, this piece dates exactly from 1852. The date is charmingly carved into the top denoting that it is a marriage armoire - a piece specifically made as a gift for a couple on their wedding day. It is hugely decorative and features hand carved images of birds with brass eyes feasting on plump grape vines. The carvings represent love, fertility and prosperity. Externally the wood has a lovely aged patina which contrasts beautifully with the large brass hinges and stunning original escutcheons. Internally the armoire offers fantastic storage with a shelf and deep hanging space. The armoire comes with a fully working key.
This armoire is fully knockdown, dissembling into manageable pieces for ease of transport. Being an older armoire it is held together with wooden dowels and will require 2 people to assemble.
Condition: Very good. As with all French furniture of this age there are idiosyncrasies and some small areas of scratches/cracks to the wood. Note that the top and bottom boards (internal) are more recent replacements.
Measurements: H: 197 cm, W: 134 cm (widest point - cornice), D: 67 cm
