An exceptional antique carved oak armoire hailing from St Malo. This is an incredibly eye catching piece, rich in detail and hand carved. It dates from the early to mid 18th century and is made of warm oak, with a beautiful honey coloured hue. Internally it comes with 3 thick cut shelves. The base houses 2 very spacious drawers and a long central drawer which is lockable. Unusually the doors have double locks and this armoire comes with the 3 original fully working keys. It also retains the original internal iron door latches. This is an incredible statement piece which has been lovingly looked after, it offers fantastic storage as well as incredible historical presence.
This armoire is fully knockdown, dissembling into manageable pieces for ease of transport. Being an older armoire it is held together using hand made wooden dowel pegs. It will require 2 people to assemble. Buyers will receive a step by step guide to help them.
Condition: Very good. As with most French furniture of this age it has experienced some woodworm in the past and has been fully treated as a precaution. The left door features a light split in the wood (see large photos), this is not a structural issue and is caused by the armoire being stored in different humidities over the years.
